Handkäse with music and Äppelwoi - Hessen is not only known for its hearty specialties. Numerous themed cycling routes also traverse through Hessen. These tours offer the opportunity to learn a lot about different regions, rivers, and geological history, such as the Vulkanradweg (Volcano Cycle Path). The Main and Rheinradweg (Rhine Cycle Path) pass by castles and vineyards. Away from the Rhine Valley, several stages of the "Deutsche Fachwerkstraße" (German Half-Timbered Road) can be experienced, leading through numerous medieval towns like Marburg, Wetzlar, or Fulda.

For sports-minded cyclists, the medium-sized mountain ranges of Rhön, Vogelsberg, and Taunus are ideal. In the state capital of Frankfurt am Main, a visit to the Goethe House, where the poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was born, is worthwhile. The Paulskirche and Römer are also worth seeing. In Kassel, one should visit the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe with the Hercules monument.
